Aunt Jennie’s Sugar Cookies

Aunt Jennie's Sugar Cookies have a hint of lemon and are rolled in sugar.
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon rind
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs, well beaten
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 2 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon soda
  1. Combine crisco, lemon rind, nutmeg and salt. Add sugar gradually, add beaten eggs and milk. Mix well. Add flour sifted with baking powder and soda. Mix well.
  2. Drop from a teaspoon onto a greased cookie sheet. Roll in sugar
  3. Let stand a few minutes, then flatten with a damp cloth-covered glass that is dipped in the sugar.
  4. Bake at 375°F. for 8-12 minutes.
