Chocolate Truffle Bars

These easy to make deep chocolate bars have a creamy, chocolaty center and are filled with walnuts.
Ingredients
  • 1 chocolate cake mix
  • 6 oz. butter - at room temperature
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (for topping)
  • 1 14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 cups chocolate chips
  • 1 cup walnuts (or pecans)
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9 x 13 inch pan.
  2. Add the cake mix, butter, egg and vanilla to a bowl. Mix together with an electric mixer for 2 - 3 minutes until mixture is crumbly. Reserve 1 cup of mixture and add the half cup of chocolate chips, set aside. Press down the remaining mixture firmly in the bottom of prepared pan. Bake for 15 minutes.
  3. In a large microwave safe container add chocolate chips. Melt in microwave for about 1 minute. Stir until smooth, add another 30 seconds if needed. Add condensed milk, blend and microwave again for 1 minute. Stir in nuts. Pour over crust when it comes out of the oven.
  4. Sprinkle the reserved mixture of cake mix and chocolate chips over the chocolate walnut mixture. Bake for 20 - 25 minutes or until topping is firm to the touch.
  5. Let stand 45 minutes before cutting.
